Situated in the middle of the natural preserve “Conventer Niederung” (Conventer marsh), beside a lake, close to the coast, you will find Börgerende-Rethwisch, a paradise for leisure and recreation.

Visitors love its peaceful atmosphere. Stroll along the village street and take a look at beautiful farm houses and landmarked barns or enjoy a look at stunningly beautiful straw-thatched houses.
Harvesting reed needed for thatching roofs was a main stay hence the first part of the village name Rethwisch (reed meadow). The second part of the village name dates back to the Thirty Years War when citizens (börger) from Rostock settled here.

The pleasant sea climate contributes to general well-being. Take a leisurely stroll along the coast or through the extensive forest “Gespensterwald” (haunted forest) or test your skills with a game of mini golf.

A place worth visiting is the village church with stained glass windows from the middle ages and the local museum with its court.
